Route:
- Look at the route here.
- Since Zermatt is a traffic free zone, you reach the village by train.
- Take the Gornergrat train from Zermatt to Rotenboden station.
- From here (2819m above sea level), a marked hiking trail gradually leads down to the glacier along the southern flank of the Gornergrat. On the glacier, make sure to follow the markers exactly. At the far end of the glacier, the trail leads up over moraine debris to the New Monte Rosa Hut (2883m above sea level).
- Return to Rotenboden via the same route.
- This alpine hike is approximately 6.5 kilometres long and takes a good 3 hours each way (it's better to calculate even more time). Furthermore, there is a difference in altitude of 200 metres on the way up and again coming back down.
- Dangerous spots: land-glacier & glacier-land. Inform yourself well about the situation and the required material.
- If you prefer not to walk, we recommend that you take the Gornergrat train from Zermatt up to the Gornergrat. From here there is a wonderful view of the new Monte Rosa Hut. Sit down on a boulder or bench or in the restaurant, and listen to all the stories in one session.

Guidance:
If you want to take this hike with a professional guide, we recommend that you contact the Alpin Center Zermatt. Mountain guides will accompany you safely to the New Monte Rosa Hut.
